While the film, series, and broader media industries in Thailand and Southeast Asia are rapidly evolving alongside technological revolutions, Thailand still relies on outdated methods for searching, storing, and presenting actor information.
Casting departments, directors, and producers often waste valuable time on inefficient presentation processes. Even though we now have modern communication tools and social media to connect casting agents with actors, these platforms weren’t designed for casting purposes.
Using Facebook job boards, LINE, email, and Google Drive to share portfolios is like driving an ox cart down Sukhumvit Road. Sure, it’ll get you there eventually—but it’s exhausting, inefficient, and frustrating for everyone else on the road, and also it’s not good for the poor oxen.
With an online database accessible on any device, anytime, anywhere, we can dramatically reduce the time required for casting work. It also gives new actors a platform to introduce themselves and reminds casting directors not to overlook more experienced actors. Clients and directors can easily and systematically browse casting options whenever and wherever they like. Casting platforms like this are widely used in countries with well-established entertainment industries. Each platform has its own features and focus, but our problem here in Thailand is that we don’t yet have a platform that supports both Thai and English and is affordable for actors and crew. We need something that serves both domestic and international productions.
While some Thai actors already have profiles on foreign platforms, not everyone can afford the membership fees.
As the Film Board page has pointed out, hundreds of international films, series, and commercials are shot in Thailand each year.
This is a win-win solution for everyone. Actors are looking for work. Casting departments are looking for actors—including so-called “non-actors,” or real people with special skills that casting agents are seeking. Directors and producers filming in Thailand would have a place to browse local talent, see who can speak which languages. It’s not always about English—sometimes they want Thai speakers, or those who speak Chinese, Burmese, etc.
So, how can we find each other? Like this!
By putting everything online and in one place. When productions come to shoot in Thailand, they can easily search for talent. The casting platform has a powerful search engine—by age, gender, special skills, language—you name it. Select your desired candidates, send an email to 50 people at once, and boom: a sleek presentation in 30 seconds. Actors can store all their media and CVs in one place and send a short, simple link without having to scroll for days.
